How is a tiny braitenberg vehicle robot made? by Alexander Weber

tiny_robotIt weighs 17 gramms, is driven by two pager motors, powered by a small lipo cell and controlled by an 8-pin ATtiny25V.  Pretty isn't it? After reading this post you can build this amazing robot on your own. First, i want to explain what exactly braitenberg robot is?
Braitenberg vehicle : A Braitenberg vehicle is an agent that can autonomously move around. It has primitive sensors (measuring some stimulus at a point) and wheels (each driven by its own motor) that function as actuators or effectors. A sensor, on its simpler form, is directly connected to an effector, so that a sensed signal immediately produces a movement of the wheel. Depending on how sensors and wheels are connected, the vehicle exhibits different behaviors (which can be goal-oriented). This means that it appears to strive to achieve certain situations and to avoid others, changing course when the situation changes.[1] Read more

Why we use resistor while we are driving leds.

I came across a very nice article at tinkerlog.com explaining why you need to use a current limiting resistor to power your leds. They say: In this post I will try to show, why it’s a good idea to use a current limiting resistor for an LED. And when it’s safe to drive the LED without any resistor. If you read about LEDs, you will notice that everyone tells you, that you need a current limiting resistor. But mostly they do not tell you why. For more information visit here.

How a Drawdio is made?

drawdioDrawdio is a pencil that lets you draw music. Imagine you could draw musical instruments on normal paper with any pencil (cheap circuit thumb-tacked on) and then play them with your finger. The Drawdio circuit-craft lets you MacGuyver your everyday objects into musical instruments: paintbrushes, macaroni, trees, grandpa, even the kitchen sink... Read more

Make your own halloween wounds and prosthetics.

flashback_wounds_openerIf you like DIY style stuffs you will love this. The idea is simple and easy to make. Here is step by step explanation. Step 1: To make a wound with liquid latex, first make sure the application area is clean and dry. Apply a thin layer of latex a little larger than the size you'd like your cut to be, taking into consideration how much "skin" you want flapping around. Wait until the latex is completely dry, which generally won't take more than 10 minutes. Step 2: Once the latex is dry, disguise the line between latex and skin. This is done by applying makeup color with a stipple sponge. Use a light hand; you can always go back and add more. If you'd like a clean cut without bruising or too much discoloration, use various hues of natural skin tones. For a bruised area, use mustard yellow, dark red, dark purple — the colors in your "injury stack" of makeup. Read more

The brain may finally reveal the neural secret of cognitive ability.

brainBrain map: Software called BrainLab analyzes data collected during a specialized MRI scan of the author’s brain in order to create a neural wiring map. The image shows a cross-section. Specific subsets of wires are highlighted (the color indicates the direction of the wiring going through that slice). The cross-sections are computationally stitched together to create a three-dimensional image.  Credit: Andrew Frew/Brainlab More info. Read more
